About Dr Michael Devadas

Dr Michael Devadas obtained his Fellowship in General Surgery with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2012. He then completed advanced training in the field of Gastro-Oesophageal surgery, through the highly competitive Australia and New Zealand Gastro-Oesophageal Association. Now a recognised specialist Upper Gastrointestinal surgeon, Michael operates in general and acute surgical conditions, as well as trauma surgery.

 

During his extensive training, Michael was mentored by renowned surgeons at Westmead, Liverpool, Nepean, Coffs Harbour, Orange, Broken Hill and Royal North Shore hospitals. Through these experiences, he formed a passion for all things Upper GI: gastric and oesophageal cancer surgery, anti-reflux surgery, hernia and laparoscopic (minimally invasive) techniques, weight loss surgery and surgical endoscopy. Since then, Michael has cared for thousands of patients in this field, contributing to an improved quality of life for thousands of individuals and their families.

Michael received his Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery with Honours from Sydney University. He also holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Medical Radiation Technology, Nuclear Medicine from Sydney University.

 

As a member of the Academy of Surgical Educators, he is an instructor of the Early Management of Severe Trauma course and has been an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons’ clinical examinations. As part of his ongoing commitment to the public health service, Michael regularly supervises and trains junior surgeons. He has been employed as a clinical academic in Nuclear Medicine by Sydney University and regularly contributes to medical research papers and peer-reviewed journals.

 

Michael lives in the Hills district, where he, and members of his family, have been serving the community in healthcare for more than 50 years. He is married to his childhood sweetheart, and has three young children who he adores.
